Give back this holiday season and join Mayor Usha Reddi and the Flint Hills Breadbasket for the Mayor’s Christmas Spirit of the Holidays Lighted Parade on Friday, December 2nd at 5:30 pm. The parade begins at Manhattan Town Center and travels through downtown Manhattan on Poyntz Avenue. It will end in Aggieville’s Triangle Park for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. Donations for the Flint Hills Breadbasket – both non-perishable food and tax-deductible monetary donations will be accepted during the parade.
Fort Riley’s annual Christkindle Market takes place on Saturday, December 3rd from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Riley’s Conference Center. The event, which is in its eighth year, features more than 50 vendors selling handmade items, holiday decor, gifts and much more. Family activities like sugar cookie decorating, face painting and pictures with Santa or the Grinch will be available for $1 each. Festive food and gluhwein (a German/Austrian winter holiday drink) will also be available for purchase. The event is open to the public; however those without a Department of Defense ID card need to stop at the Henry Gate visitor center to get a pass. This Saturday, December 3rd will be the annual Help Portrait event. Local photographers who want to give back to the low income community are there to take family or individual portraits and print them right there for people to take with them. They are great quality photos with no strings attached. No one tries to sell packages of photos or other items. There will be a meal to enjoy as well. This event will be at The Fellow, 1125 Westport Drive.
People who need help selecting a health insurance plan for 2017 have an opportunity to talk with experts, noon to 4:00 pm, on Saturday, December 3rd at Dorothy Bramlage Public Library in Junction City. There is no cost to attend the event. Trained health insurance Navigators at this event will help people in comparing their insurance options at the Health Insurance Marketplace.
