Native Stone Chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse Benefit Run will be held on Saturday, September 17th.  $25.00 per rider, $15.00 per passenger includes a 2016 Benefit Run T-shirt.  Registration at 10:00 am at City Cycle Sales in Junction City.  Kickstands up at 12:00 pm.  Ride ends at R C McGraw’s in Manhattan.  All funds raised help accomplish the mission to EMPOWER children to NOT feel afraid of the world in which they live.  For more information visit

Personal Digital Archiving @ Manhattan Public Library

A free program, Personal Digital Archiving, by Cliff Hight, university archivist at Kansas State University will be held on Saturday, September 17th at 2:00 pm at the Manhattan Public Library.  Personal Digital Archiving, a presentation of the Kansas State Historical Records Advisory Board, will include guidance on digital preservation and examples of personal digital archiving, which is the practice of preserving our own digital records of continuing value.  There also will be time for attendees to try some of these activities with their own electronic files.

MHS Theatre Kids Camp @ Manhattan High School

On Friday. September 23rd the Thespian club is planning a kids theatre camp located at Manhattan High School.  The camp is for students from kindergarten to 8th grade.  At the camp, the students will be taught a song and dance from the fall musical this year The Drowsy Chaperone.  It is a hilarious musical within a comedy, but this is the first time it has been performed in the community.  the camp will be $25 per student and $5 off for any families with more than one student.  The students will arrive from 12:30-1:00 and then go to different theatre related classes for the rest of the afternoon.  There will be a performance for parents at 5:30.  For more information contact Heather Lansdowne at or Linda Uthoff, lindau@usd383.o9rg.

Earthquake Survivors’ Benefit @ St Thomas More Church

The Italian Club of the Flint Hills is hosting a benefit to raise money for earthquake survivors in Italy.  The event will be held on Friday, September 23rd, from 4:30 to 7:30 pm at St Thomas More Church, on 2900 Kimball Avenue in Manhattan.  The menu features a pasta dish mixed in a homemade tomato sauce with a salt cured and spiced, Italian bacon.  In addition to the pasta, the menu offers salad, homemade Italian pie and beverages.  The group is offering the meal to the public for a free will donation of $12 per person.  The money raised from this event will be sent to the National Italian-American Foundation for Earthquake Relief.  More details about the relief effort can be found at:

Free Cancer Screenings @ Health Department

Local Masons are hosting a free cancer screening on Saturday, October 8th, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Public Health Department in Marysville.  It is one of 26 free cancer screenings the Kansas Masonic Foundation is sponsoring across the region in 2016.  The event will include skin, prostate screenings as well as bone density tests and facial sun damage assessments.  For more information contact Laura Long at or call 913-945-7533.
