Quilt Expo @ Pottorf Hall CiCo Park
Sep 15 @ 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Sew and Show: a Quilt Expo will be held on Friday, September 15th from 1:00 to 8:00 pm  and on Saturday, September 16th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Pottorf Hall, CiCo Park.  This is a quilt show sponsored by Konza Prairie Quilters’ Guild.  Members will have their quilts displayed, and speakers will present short informative talks about various topics.  Classic cars from the local Yard Art Classics Car Club will be in the parking lot on Saturday.  A representative of Kansas Flint Hills Quilt Trail, along with examples of barn quilts, will be on the east patio as well.

2200 Steps

The second annual 2200 Steps will be held on Saturday, September 16th from 10:00 to 11:00 am.  The walk starts at the fountain on South 3rd street and walks north to Poyntz.  Then take a left and walk down to 6th street, crossing the street and heading back to 3rd then to the fountain.  Every day we lose 22 Veterans to the invisible wounds of war.  We would like to reach out to our Veterans and let them know we are here for them.  There are 2200 steps in a mile so the is sending out that message that we will go the extra mile for our troops.  Any questions or concerns call 785-236-1893 or vet.sup.hos@gmail.com.

Toy Drive @ Manhattan City Park

The 5th Annual Toy Drive benefiting the children of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital & Children’s Mercy Hospital will be on Saturday, September 16th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at City Park.  They will have a FREE Kids Carnival with the donation of a new toy.  (Please no stuffed animals) They will have hot dogs; raffles; face painting; cotton candy; bounce houses; Star Wars characters; popcorn and a silent auction!

Under the Summer Lights @ Manhattan Public Library

Under the Summer Lights: Eureka Lake Electric Park will be held on Sunday, September 17th, at 2:00 pm at the Manhattan Public Library.  This event explores the history of the electric amusement park developed in 1913 by Manhattan Interurban Railway owner Will R West just five miles west of Manhattan.  The twenty-seven acre park contained rustic walking paths and statuary from the Chicago World’s Fair, among a variety of other summer amusements.  This program is free and open to the public.

Senior Center Kitchen Open House @ Senior Center

You are cordially invited to attend the Seniors’ Service Center Kitchen Open House on Thursday, September 21st at 1:00 pm.  Help them recognize the partners and donors that made this project possible.  The kitchen will be open for viewing even though some finishing touches will still need to be completed.

City Candidates Forum @ Fire Station

The Manhattan Association of Realtors and Flint Hills Area Builders Association will sponsor a City Candidates Forum on Thursday, September 28th at 7:00 pm in the Fire Station Lecture Hall.  There will be time prior to and after the Forum to meet and greet the organization members.  Plus, this will be open to the public.

The Wizard of Oz @ Columbian Theatre

The Columbian will be presenting The Wizard of Oz during the OZtoberFest weekend.  The Mystery show will start on Thursday, October 5th at 7:30 to kick off all events.  Then there will be two more shows the 6th and 7th at 7:30 pm as well.  The Oz Murder Mystery is an original comedy written by a local playwright and teacher Bryan Scruggs.  This year there will be a new twist endings each night and even new characters.  It will be even better than last year.

Campus Mobile Food Pantry @ Chester E Peters Recreation Complex

The Campus Mobile Food Pantry will have fresh produce at no cost on Friday, October 13th, from 4 – 6 pm while supplies last in parking Lot C-1 of the Chester E Peters Recreation Complex.  This is open to all K-State and Manhattan community members.  Questions? The Riley County 4-H Citizenship Washington Focus Fundraiser Garage Sale will be held on Friday, October 20th from 6:00-8:00 pm and Saturday, October 21st from 7:30 am to Noon at Wreath Barn in CiCo Park north of Pottorf Hall.  If you would like to donate to this event you may drop off items on location on Thursday, October 19th, Noon to 8:00 pm and Friday, October 20th from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.  If you have questions about this event contact John Jobe at 785-537-6350.
