5K/10K Run/Walk For Christ @ Northeast Community Park

The Vineyard Community Church is hosting a 5K/10K Run/Walk for Christ on Saturday, October 29th at 10:00 am at Northeast Community Park (Linear Trail) at 680 Knox Lane.  The event is free and open to the public.

Hoop Scoop for Women Clinic @ Ice Family Basketball Center

Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber and his staff will host the American Cancer Society’s Hoop Scoop for Women clinic on Saturday, October 29th from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm, at the Ice Family Basketball Center.  The clinic will give attendees an exclusive look at the ins-and-outs of the men’s basketball program as well as provide personal interaction with members of the coaching staff and student-athletes.  The cost is $50 per person with all the proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society and Coaches vs. Cancer.  The deadline to register for the event is Friday, October 28th.  Reservations are limited to the first 150 registrants.  For more information on the clinic, please contact Betty Bachamp in the men’s basketball office at 785-532-6531 of via email at

Sausage Supper @ Paxico Sacred Heart Parish

Paxico Sacred Heart is having a Home Cooked German Sausage Supper on Sunday, October 30th.  Buffet style serving will be from 12:00 to 3:30 pm.  Mass will be at 10:30 am.  They will also have bingo/games/raffles and a silent auction.  Adults – $12.00; Ages 4 thru 12 – $4.00; Ages under 4 – Free.

Bascom Lecture at KSU @ K-State Student Union

A human papillomavirus expert involved in developing HPV diagnostic tests and vaccines will speak at Kansas State University as part of the Johnson Cancer Research Center’s George S. Bascom Memorial Lecture Series on Current Issues in Clinical Medicine.  Michael Hagensee will present “HPV vaccination: from laboratory to..bedside?” at 7:00 pm, on Thursday, November 3rd, in the K-State Union’s Little Theatre.  The talk is free and the public is invited.

Veterans Day Schedule:  7:00 am – Veterans Day Breakfast at the American Legion Hall, Post 17, 114 McCall Road.  Free to all Veterans.   8:00 am – Inaugural Flag Raising, Flint Hills Center, corner of Houston and 4th Streets. 8:00 am – Parade Line in the staging area, Manhattan Town Center.  9:00 am – State and Territorial Flag Display, City Hall, 1101 Poyntz Avenue.  9:30 am Veterans Day Honor Parade.  Starting at the Manhattan Town Center with a review in front of City Hall, and ends at 14th Street.  11:00 am – Commemorative Program, Peace Memorial Auditorium.  Guest speaker Lt General Perry Wiggins (Ret).  6:00 pm – Veterans Day Recognition Honors Banquet.  Guest speaker LTC. Art DeGroat (Ret).

Wamego Veterans Memorial Dedication @ Wamego City Park

The Wamego Area Veterans Memorial Dedication Ceremony will be held on Sunday, November 20th at 1:00 pm.  Following the ceremony you are welcome to go the the Community Center (Senior Center) for cupcakes, drinks and socializing.

The Jammin’ Northstars Elementary Choir Presents: National Pearl Harbor Concert on Wednesday, December 7th at 7:00 pm in the Peace memorial (City) Auditorium to honor our WWII Veterans.  This is a Bob Hope style U.S.O. Show extravaganza with singing, dancing and jokes.  Fun costumes, great entertainment.  Anyone and everyone who loves good music from the 40’s and want to be a part of honoring our WWII Veterans is welcome to attend.
