The vaccines recommended by the RCHD are recommended by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control & Prevention). The vaccines may be given at the same time and some vaccines may require follow-up doses. If your child has insurance the RCHD will bill insurance. If your child qualifies for the VFC program (Vaccines for Children), the RCHD participates in the VFC program and there may be a $14 injection fee.
The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, Riley County Fish and Game Association, and the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers at Tuttle Creek Lake are still accepting applications for the 2014 Tuttle Creek Youth/Disabled Assisted Deer Hunt, September 6th and 7th. This hunt, which is offered free of charge, is open to resident youth age 11-16 and those with a certified disability interested in hunting Kansas whitetails. Applications are due July 31st. The Riley County Treasurer’s Office will be closing at 3:30 pm on Friday, August 1st, for the Treasurer’s retirement. they will reopen at 8:3o am on Monday, August 4th.
Healthy Community Sharing will be held at the First United Methodist Church and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, North and south sides, 6th and Poyntz Avenues from 10 am to 8 pm. There will be social services tables, mobile food distribution, clothing closet, community meal, health screenings and school district support. Children’s activities will be held from 10 am to 2 pm. There will be an obstacle course, bounce house and crafts.
A Negro Spirituals Concert and LaVerne Baker’s 80th Birthday Celebration will be held on Friday, August 8th. Featuring Dr. LaVerne L. Baker, Folksinger and Mrs. Mary Caudle Kidd, Pianist. The Concert will be from 7:00-8:00 pm in the Sanctuary and the Birthday Celebration will be from 8:00 to 9:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Both events will take place at the First United Methodist Church.
The HyVee Just Tri It Youth Triathlon is a fun challenging event for kids ages 5 to 14. Young athletes will swim, bike and run in this three-event race that not only promotes fitness but also improves self-confidence as participants cross the finish line on their own. The race begins at 7:30 am Saturday, August 9th in City Park, 11th & Poyntz Avenue. For more information on the event and registering your child, see the Just Tri It Registration Form. The Speedy PD Race for Parkinson’s Disease will be held at Tuttle Creek State Park in Manhattan, on Saturday, August 23rd. There will be a 5K/10K Run/Walk and Half-Mile Family Fun Run/Walk with proceeds to benefit the Meadowlark Hills Parkinson Fund. Registration and packet pick-up will be Friday August 22nd, at the Holiday Inn at the Campus from 4:30 to 7:00 pm with the Key Note Speaker at 6:30 pm. On race day, packet pick up and registration is from 6:30 to 7:30 am. The 5K/10K races begin at 8 am and the Half-Mile Family Fun Run/Walk will start at 9:15 am. Awards will start at 9:30 am; BBQ and Beer will begin at 9 am featuring Cox Bros BBQ and Budweiser.
