The Riley County Conservation District is hosting a Soil Health and Cover Crop Tour on Wednesday, October 18th at Nelson’s Landing. Start time is 9:00 am. Wednesday, October 18th the Riley County Historical society will hold its annual dinner meeting and program at the Family and Child Resource Center (lower level) 2101 Claflin Road. The dinner will begin at 6:30 pm. Cost of the dinner is $11.00 and reservations must be made by calling 785-565-6490 by October 11th. The program will begin around 7:15 pm. Dr. Steve Christy, member of the Board of Directors of the Kansas Barn Alliance will speak on “Beauty and Heritage, Why We Save Our Historic Barns”. The program is free and does not require a reservation. Everyone is invited.
Manhattan High Thespians will be hosting the second annual Kids’ Theatre Camp on Friday, October 20th at MHS West Campus from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. The camp is open to anyone in kindergarten through eighth grade. Students will be led through basics about lighting, sound costuming, makeup, improvisation, and dancing for theatre productions. Members of the high school Thespian Club will run the camp with adult supervision. The Riley County 4-H Citizenship Washington Focus Fundraiser Garage Sale will be held on Friday, October 20th from 6:00-8:00 pm and Saturday, October 21st from 7:30 am to Noon at Wreath Barn in CiCo Park north of Pottorf Hall. If you would like to donate to this event you may drop off items on location on Thursday, October 19th, Noon to 8:00 pm and Friday, October 20th from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. The Manhattan Lions Club Pancake Feed with Kansas Quality Woodworkers Arts & Crafts Show will be held on Saturday, October 21st from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm at Pottorf Hall. They will have pancakes, sausages & choice of eggs with coffee, orange drink or water. Blind made products including brooms and other useful items. Vision/Eye evaluations for kids to determine need for further examination, 9:00 – 11:30 am. Fire engine rides on “Old Engine #1” for children and parents by MHK Fire Dept 9:00 – 11:30 am. Large exhibition of arts ad crafts by local crafts people for personal or gift enjoyment.
The Randolph United Methodist Church will hold there Fall Supper on Wednesday, October 25th from 5:00 to 7:30 pm at the church. Menu will be Swedish Meatballs; Creamed Chicken; Mashed Potatoes, Corn or Green Beans; Variety of Salads and Relishes and Homemade Bread and Pie. Cost: Preschool – free; K – 6th grade -$2.50 and Adults – $8.00. Everyone welcome.
