Succession Planning & Communication Seminar @ Riley County Public Works Facility

Charlie Griffin and Charlotte Shoup Olsen will be the featured speakers at a seminar on Succession Planning and Communications, to be held on 12:30 pm on Friday, February 17th.  The meeting will be held at the Riley County Public Works Facility.  Griffin and Olsen have been asked to help workshop participants learn better communication skills – skills that will help them start conversations about estate and succession planning, or other farm business decisions.  The goal is to encourage better communication with family, landlords, and business partners, and to encourage discussions that will make farm businesses stronger.  This meeting is a part of the Women Involved in Agriculture-2 series, but everyone is welcome, not just Women in Ag class members.  Spouses are also invited and encouraged to attend.  There is a $10 registration fee that includes lunch.  Lunch will be served at 12:30, with the meeting following, and adjournment by 4:00 pm.  Reservations may be made online at www.riley.ksu.edu, or by calling 785-537-6350.

Soul Food Dinner @ Kaw Blue Lodge

There will be a Soul Food Dinner at the Kaw Blue Lodge #107 on Saturday, February 18th from 11:00 am to 4:30 pm.  Dinners are $10.00.  They will have field peas or collard greens; macaroni/cheese; corn bread/bread; choice of meats: fish, chicken/pig feet.  Gumbo will be available extra.  They will have meals to go. Riley Co. Genealogical Society Meeting @ Manhattan Public Library

Riley County Genealogical Society “DNA Test Results – What now?”  This event will be held on Sunday, February 19th at 2:00 pm at the Manhattan Public Library Auditorium.  Presented by Jill Meyers Frese – Local Genealogist with experience of over 35 years.  DNA testing has become a popular tool for genealogist looking for additional information on your family roots.  The different tests (FTDNA, Ancestry, 23andme) will be discussed and what do you do with this information after you get your results and how they are significant to your genealogy.  This program is free and open to the public.

Visually Impaired Support Group @ Senior Center

The Visually Impaired Persons (VIP) Support Group invites you to join them at their meeting on Tuesday, February 21st at 2:00 pm at the Riley County Senior Center to learn about the Telecommunication Access Program (TAP).  Kansas TAP is an equipment distribution program.  The purpose of the program is to provide specialized telephones and other telecommunication devices to Kansans with disabilities who can not use traditional phones.  Nancy Stork from ATK (Assistive Technology for Kansans) will talk about the program and will have hands-on demonstrations of some of these devices.  For more information, please contact Nancy Stork at 1-800-526-9731 or Kathy at 539-1973.
