League Candidate Forum @ Manhattan Fire Station
Mar 26 @ 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm

The League of Women Voters of Manhattan/Riley County is sponsoring three candidate forums in connection with the spring election.  The first forum will be held on Thursday, March 26th from 6:30 – 7:45 pm at Fire Station Headquarters.  It will feature the candidates for Manhattan City Commission.  The same evening a second forum will be held for candidates for USD 383 School Board.  This forum will begin at approximately 8:00 pm and should conclude no later than 9:00 pm.

Discoverying the Last Dance @ Flint Hills Discovery Center

Discovering the Last Dance: Several additional opportunities are available to visit a greater prairie-chicken booming ground.  This time, FHDC staff will accompany you on a trip and provide all the insight you need! This unique experience is limited to five participants per session.  Sessions are offered on Saturday, March 28th;   Saturday, April 11th; and Sunday, April 12th, all from 5:00 – 10:30am.  These events are open to both members and non-members and more information can be found at or call 785-587-2726.

Body First Wicked Marathon @ Wamego Recreation Center
Mar 28 @ 7:30 am – 8:00 am

The Body First Wicked Marathon will be held on Saturday, March 28th.  This event has been named an official state championship event.  This means all overall and age group winners in the year’s race will be recognized as state champions.  The half-marathon begins at 7:30 am from the Wamego Recreation Complex, down Military Trail Road, and back to Lincoln Street in downtown.  The marathon will begin at 8:00 am about 2 miles east of downtown on Old U S Hiway 24, head down Military Trail road about two miles past St. George and the back to Wamego. Both races will finish in front of the Oz Museum to the cheers of Wizard of Oz characters.

Legislative Coffee @ Sunset Zoo

The Chamber will host its second Legislative  Coffee for our Kansas Legislators this Saturday, March 28th at 7:30 – 9:00 am at the Sunset Zoo Educational Building….open to the public and media and there is no cost to attend.

Youth Hiring Fair @ Forsyth Community Center

Young people looking to make some extra money or gain valuable career experience this summer can attend the Youth Hiring Fair, March 28th, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Fort Riley.  The event takes place at the Forsyth Community Center.  The hiring fair is an excellent opportunity for people ages 14 to 21 to visit with employers and volunteer organizations and learn about summertime jobs and volunteer positions.  For more information, call the Employment Readiness Program at 239-9435.

Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies @ Manhattan Public Library

The three-part PBS documentary Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies, created by preeminent filmmaker Ken Burns based on a 2010 Pulitzer Prize-winning book, premieres March 30th.  K-State’s Johnson Cancer Research Center and KTWU 11 PBS will host an advance screening event at 2-4 pm, on March 28th, in the Manhattan Public Library Auditorium.  An informational fair featuring local cancer-related agencies and organizations will precede the hour-long preview of the documentary at 3:00 pm.  This public event is free and refreshments will be provided.

MAPJ Annual Meeting @ UUFM Building
