The Manhattan Book Discussion Group and the VIP (Visually Impaired Persons) Support Group will meet on Tuesday, January 17th at the Senior Center. The Book Group will meet at 1:00. The title this month is “A Spool of Blue Thread” by Anne Tyler. The VIP meeting will follow from 2:00 – 3:00 pm. This will be a planning meeting. They would like to know what topics would be of interest to those in our community dealing with vision loss. K-State Research and Extension will hold Gardening Education Events on Saturday, January 21st beginning at 9:00 am with Growing in Riley County. Herb Gardening will be at 10:00 am and Creating a Water Feature at 11:00 am. For more information contact Gregg Eyestone, Extension Agent at 785-537-6350.
MLK, Jr. Community Celebration will be held at the Manhattan Fire Station on Saturday, January 22nd from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Featuring the art and writing contest winners from local schools (Bluemont, Theodore Roosevelt, Manhattan Catholic School, Manhattan High School) music, fellowship, recognition of the annual Spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr. Award winners, and speaker Zelia Wiley, interim provost for the diversity at K-State. The title of her talk is “2017”: Education, Diversity & Dr. King’s Dream.”
The Kansas State University/Manhattan Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will present a recital on Sunday, January 22nd, at 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church. A wide variety of organ music will be performed and there is no admission charge.
