Free Dental Services @ National Guard Armory

The Kansas Dental Charitable Foundation is hosting Free Dental Services on January 27th-28th at the National Guard Armory, 721 Levee Drive.  Doors open at 5:30 am.  No appointments – First come, First Served.  Children and Adults.  Patient information: Continue taking any prescription medications as directed and bring them along so a dose is not missed.  Bring a list of current medications, allergies, and health condition.  No eligibility, income, or residency requirements needed.  Services include cleanings, fillings, and extractions…NO dentures.  Nearly 700 patients will be treated each day so be prepared to wait several hours.  Biscuits and gravy for breakfast and a sandwich for lunch will be provided at no charge.  Bring snacks and water.

Health Insurance Event @ UFM Learning Center

People seeking help selecting a health insurance plan for 2017 or wanting to know whether they would qualify for a health insurance tax exemption have an opportunity to talk with experts 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday, January 30th at the UFM Community Learning Center.  There is no cost to attend this event, but people should call the Area Agency on Aging at 800-432-2703 to schedule an appointment.

RCLA Annual Meeting @ Pottorf Hall

The Riley County Livestock Association will hold its Annual Meeting at 6:30 pm on Monday, January 30th at Pottorf Hall.  The schedule for the evening includes a 10-ounce ribeye steak dinner, election of three RCLA directors, and a legislative report by Mike Beam of the Kansas Livestock Association.  The program will be provided by Ron Trewyn, NBAF Facilities Liasion for Kansas State University.  His program is titled, “National Bio Agro-defense Facility: Confronting Global Infectious Disease Threats.”  Reservations to attend the RCLA Annual Meeting are needed by January 23rd.  The $15 charge includes both the steak dinner and membership in the Riley County Association.  Call the Riley County Extension Office at 785-537-6350 to make reservations, or register at www.riley.ksu.edu.

Free Tax Preparation @ Manhattan Public Library

The Manhattan Public Library, Computer Lab will hold a Free Tax Preparation beginning February 1st.  Hours will be Tuesdays, 10 am – 3 pm; Wednesdays and Thursdays 1 – 8 pm with extended hours February 1st – 17th.  The site prepares simple IRS 1040 tax returns and Kansas returns.  They cannot itemize returns or prepare returns for members of the military, international students or state other than Kansas.  Maximum household income: $54,000.  To set up an appointment beginning January 20th, call 565-6426 or email vitataxes@gmail.com or book online at www.riley.ksu.edu.  Contact the Riley County Extension Office at 785-537-6350 with questions.

Fairy Godmother Celebration @ Holiday Inn

This year’s Manhattan Fairy Godmothers’ Annual Celebration and Auction revolves around the theme “Experience This….”.  Items for the auction will be baskets and containers filled with various products, food and drink, get aways and experiences lucky ladies may be able to take home.  This celebration will be Tuesday, February 7th beginning at 5:00 pm in the Holiday Inn at the Campus.  The evening begins with a social hour followed by dinner, remarks from outgoing president, Linda Puntney, the silent auction and bake walk.  To RSVP for the 10th Annual Celebration and Auction, please call the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation at 785-587-8995, or stop by the office at 555 Poyntz Avenue, Suite 269.  The cost of the event is $20 per person and in required no later than January 31st.

MLK, Jr. Prayer Breakfast, will be held at the Four Points by Sheraton on Monday, February 25th starting at 9:00 am.  The lecture will be by Featuring Gretchen Cassel Eick, civil rights activist and author of “Dissent in Wichita: the Civil Rights Movement in the Midwest, 1954-72.”  The lecture is free, but if eating, the breakfast buffet cost app. $11.
