Visually Impaired Support Group @ Senior Center

The Visually Impaired Persons (VIP) Support Group invites you to join them at their meeting on Tuesday, February 21st at 2:00 pm at the Riley County Senior Center to learn about the Telecommunication Access Program (TAP).  Kansas TAP is an equipment distribution program.  The purpose of the program is to provide specialized telephones and other telecommunication devices to Kansans with disabilities who can not use traditional phones.  Nancy Stork from ATK (Assistive Technology for Kansans) will talk about the program and will have hands-on demonstrations of some of these devices.  For more information, please contact Nancy Stork at 1-800-526-9731 or Kathy at 539-1973.

Coffee Shop Agronomy @ Nelson's Landing

Dealing With Herbicide Resistant Weeds will be the topic at the February 23rd Coffee Shop Agronomy meeting, scheduled for 10:30 am to noon at Nelson’s Landing in Leonardville.  K-State weed scientist Dallas Peterson will be the featured speaker.  Peterson has a PhD in Weed Science from North Dakota State University and served as the Extension Weed Specialist from 1987 through 1989.  He returned to Kansas State University in 1989 and has served as the Extension Weed Specialist at Kansas State since that time.  Peterson is a past-president of the Weed Science Society of America.  Reservations to attend the workshop are requested by noon on February 22nd.  Register online at www.riley.ksu.edu or contact Greg McClure at the Riley County Extension Office 785-537-6350 for more information.

Legislative Coffee @ Zoo Educational Center

The first Kansas Legislative Coffee for 2017 will be held on Saturday, February 25th, at the Zoo Educational Center at 7:30 am.  There will be coffee and some assorted rolls.  This event is free and open to the public.

MLK, Jr. Prayer Breakfast, will be held at the Four Points by Sheraton on Monday, February 25th starting at 9:00 am.  The lecture will be by Featuring Gretchen Cassel Eick, civil rights activist and author of “Dissent in Wichita: the Civil Rights Movement in the Midwest, 1954-72.”  The lecture is free, but if eating, the breakfast buffet cost app. $11.

Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge @ Pottorf Hall CiCo Park

3rd Annual Wildcat Warrior 5K @ Gen Richard B Myers Hall

The 3rd Annual Wildcat Warrior 5K will be held on Saturday, April 22nd at the General Richard B Myers Hall, Kansas State University.  Registration: 8:00 am.  5K Start: 9:00 am. 2017 Sunflower State Games

The 28th annual Sunflower State Games will be held July 14th – 30th.  The Sunflower State Games is Kansas’ largest amateur sports festival.  With over 45 different events there is something for people of all ages and skill levels.  In 2017 they will be adding Cornhole (Bags) and Drone Racing to the list of events.  Registration for the Sunflower State Games opens on March 1st, deadlines to register vary for each sport.  Complete event information and registration procedures can be found at www.sunflowergames.com.
