Twilight Nature Hike @ Tuttle Creek State Park

Join Tuttle Creek Staff at the Park Office (5800 River Pond Rd) for a group hike on Saturday, October 1st at 6:15 pm.  Enjoy a leisurely group hike with new friends and familiar autumn scenes.  Campfire and s’mores to wrap up the night.

Fried Chicken & Ham Supper @ St. Luke Lutheran Church

St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton will have a Fried Chicken & Ham Supper on Sunday, October 2nd.  Serving begins at 4:30 pm.  This will include mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables, salads, coleslaw, homemade breads and pies.  Carry outs available.  Adults: $8.00 – Children (Ages 5-12): $3.00 and ages 4 and under: FREE.  Homemade goodies and crafts will also be available.

White House Wildcat Exhibit @ Hale Library

This October, Kansas State University Libraries honors alumnus and Abilene native Marlin Fitzwater with an exhibit, “Marlin Fitztwater: From Wheat Fields to White House.” The exhibit opens at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, October 4th.  The evening will include a 6:30 pm conversation with Fitzwater moderated by Cathy Dawes, news director of 1350 KMAN.  Fitzwater will reflect on his time as the only press secretary in U.S. history appointed by two presidents, both Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Punt, Pass & Kick @ CiCo Park

Punt, Pass & Kick, a free competition for grades 1-6 will be held on Wednesday, October 5th, at CiCo Park with registration starting at 6:00 pm and competition at 6:30 pm.  Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in each grade division (1/2, 3/4, 5/6).

Riley County Anniversary @ Pottorf Hall, CiCo Park

The Riley County Historical Museum will celebrate its 100th anniversary Wednesday, October 5th at 7:00 pm at Pottorf Hall, CiCo Park.  After a short program the centennial will be celebrated with birthday cake and prizes.  The birthday party is free and everyone is invited to attend.

Fall Indoor Sale @ Senior Center

The Riley County Senior Center will hold a Fall Indoor Sale on Friday, October 7th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and Saturday, October 8th from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.  They always have great bargains.  They will take your gently used items up through October 5th.  They don’t accept clothing, exercise equipment, computers, televisions, or guns.  Support the Center with your donations or your purchase.  This is one of their major fundraisers; all proceeds support the Center’s programs/activities.

19th Annual Tournament @ Colbert Hills Golf Course

The 19th Annual Rob Regier Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, October 7th with a Shotgun Start at 1:00 pm at Colbert Hills Golf Course.  This annual golf tournament honors Rob Regier, a K-State grad in pre-dentistry who died of cancer at age 26.  It is hosted by Rob’s parents Les & Sandy Regier, and his brother and sister-in-law, Randy & Juli Regier.  It’s a 4-person scramble and includes prizes and inneer.  Started in 1998 in Kansas City by some of Rob’s Sig Ep fraternity brothers, the tournament is now held in Manhattan.

Free Cancer Screenings @ Health Department

Local Masons are hosting a free cancer screening on Saturday, October 8th, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Public Health Department in Marysville.  It is one of 26 free cancer screenings the Kansas Masonic Foundation is sponsoring across the region in 2016.  The event will include skin, prostate screenings as well as bone density tests and facial sun damage assessments.  For more information contact Kevin Throm at 785-713-1512 or krbsthrom@bluevalley.net.

Riley County Genealogical Society @ Manhattan Public Library

RCGS researchers have looked into the distant past of a Manhattanite’s family.  Jay Nelson’s genealogical past will be featured.  Come hear the fascinating story that can be traced back to the 1500’s — including a Dutch grain merchant, a foster family, and other colorful characters.  This event will be held at the Manhattan Public Library on Sunday, October 9th from 2:00 to 3:30 pm.  This presentation is free and open to the public.

Alzheimer’s Support Group @ Senior Center

An Alzheimer’s Support Group for Caregivers will be held on Monday, October 10th from 1:30 to 3:00 pm at the Senior Center.  This is for caregivers to share and connect with others who have the same kinds of struggles as you.  While sign-up is not required it helps with planning so please let them know if you will attend by calling 537-4040 before Friday, October 7th.
