Local Food & Farm Task Force Meeting @ Kansas Department of Agriculture

The Local Food and Farm Task Force will meet at 10:00 am on Monday, August 31st.  The meeting will include a presentation from Kansas State University College of Agriculture Dean John Floros.  The Task force is responsible for preparing a local food and farm plan containing policy and funding recommendations in order in increase locally grown food production.  The meeting is open to the public.  Individuals who have questions regarding the meeting should contact KDA marketing director, Kerry Wefald at Kerry.wefald@kda.ks.gov

From the Land of Kansas Tailgate Contest @ Bill Snyder Family Stadium

Kansas’ agricultural trademark program, From the Land of Kansas, invites tailgaters to participate in the second annual From the Land of Kansas Tailgate Contest.  The contest presented by Manhattan HyVee, will be held on Saturday, September 5th, prior to the Kansas State University vs. South Dakota football game.  Tailgate contest participants are challenged to create dishes featuring Kansas ingredients.  Winners will not only be named champion, but will also receive From the Land of Kansas memorabilia and a gift card from Manhattan HyVee.  For more information, visit FromtheLandofKansas.com/tailgate.

Control Tower Tour @ Tuttle Creek Lake

The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers at Tuttle Creek Lake invites the public to attend a Control Tower Tour on Saturday, September 5th, at 1:30 pm.  The tour is open to U S Citizens and attendees must sign up at the Corps of Engineers Project office before the day of the tour.  There are only 20 spots available, so sign up today.  Steve Prockish and Jordan McGuinn, Park Rangers at Tuttle Creek Lake, will conduct the program.  Attendees will learn about the history of the dam and how the tower operates.  Please be advised that backpacks and purses are not allowed on the tower.  Photographs are not permitted in the tower, so please leave cameras and cell phones in vehicles.  Tour parking will be in the lot on the west end of the dam.  For further information on this program, please contact the Corps of Engineers Office, at 5020 Tuttle Creek Blvd or call 785-539-8511.

Grandparents; & Enrichment Day @ Sunset Zoo

Grandparents’ & Enrichment Day will be held at the Zoo on Sunday, September 6th from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.  Grandparents admitted free this day with a paid child’s admission.  Plus, tour the animal exhibits to see firsthand how keepers use enrichment to ensure our animal collection stays active and healthy.

Coffee and Conversation @ Methodist Church

There will be a Coffee and Conversation with Local Elected Officials on Saturday, September 12th from 9:30 (coffee) to 11:30 am at the College Avenue United Methodist Church New Community Room.  This will be an opportunity to talk to our local school board members, mayor, city commissioners and county commissioners….the individuals who guide our community.  The format will be a round-robin.  The meeting is free and open to the public.
