RCPD vehicles (better) 6-15

Due to heightened security at public events nationwide the Riley County Police Department will have an increased presence at some large community functions, and those that meet an undisclosed criteria, in the future. This increased police presence is out of an abundance of caution and not a result of direct threats or increased danger to the community, its safety, or future event participants.

Josh Kyle, patrol commander for the Riley County Police Department said in a news release issued Tuesday, “A conscious decision has been made by RCPD to provide additional resources at some of these events to include an increase in visible police presence. This increase in personnel at events is intended to improve safety and security.”

Attendees of the Veterans Day Parade in Manhattan on November 11 will see this increased presence first-hand though no threats of violence have been made. Those attending the parade are asked to assist law enforcement by avoiding parking vehicles on Poyntz Ave. Police also ask that attendees only carry bags and backpacks that are necessary to enjoy the event comfortably.
