Manhattan Regional Airport has opened two new temporary parking lots in preparation for increased travel demand expected from holiday traffic.

Previously, overflow parking was available on the military ramp, but that area is currently unavailable due to construction at the airport terminal.

“With terminal construction activities impacting our operations, we were in a position where we had to re-arrange some of our parking,” said Airport Director Jesse R. Romo. “We’re excited to have these new temporary lots open in time for our holiday traffic.”

mhkOne new lot is located on the east side of the existing parking lot. It can be entered from two points, but traffic will only flow in one direction, north to south. The parking stalls will be marked in a diagonal fashion. The other lot is located on the west side. Signage will direct customers to the new parking lots. Both lots will be marked but because they are gravel, the markings will not be permanent, so customers should be conscientious in how they park to help maximize the capacity of the lots. Approximately 114 new parking stalls may be realized by this project.

The Manhattan City Commission approved the temporary parking lot project on Oct. 6 and awarded it to Midwest Concrete Materials.
