We’ve been telling you lately about a scam that’s been running in both Riley and Pottawatomie Counties where a caller tells a victim that a family member has been kidnapped and another incident took place this morning in Pottawatomie County.
Sherriff Greg Riat tells KMAN a victim received multiple calls this morning that a family member had been kidnapped which begain an investigation. Because the calls were placed in an area that was close to St. George Elementary School, the Sheriff’s Department notified the school of what’s happening and the building was placed on lockdown for a short time. Authorities were eventually able to locate the person who was said to be kidnapped who was determined to be fine and subsequent to that the lockdown was lifted. At no time were any students at the school in danger.
Sherriff Riat says today’s action were out of an abundance of caution and reminded area residents to remain on the lookout for scams like these.
