Jakes Women pictures 005

If you’re looking for a last-minute gift idea for your Valentine that will be both unique and appreciated, look no further than the C. L. Hoover Opera House in Junction City.  This weekend, the Neil Simon comedy “Jake’s Women” will be performed.

The play tells the story of Jake, a middle-aged novelist who is much more successful at writing his relationships than he is at living them.  His marriage to second wife Maggie is in trouble, and Jake isn’t equipped to handle the situation.   He calls on the many other women in his life, including his sister, his therapist, his daughters at two different ages, his current girlfriend, his estranged spouse, and even his deceased wife for advice and guidance.

“Some of them actually help him through it, and others maybe kind of hinder it”, says director Brent Sigman.  “There’s a lot of tender moments, and there’s a couple of sad moments, and there’s even some moments that’ll just make you reflect on what’s going on in your own life and how you would deal with that”, he says.

Neil Simon has long been one of America’s favorite playwrites, and Sigman attributes his popularity to the ability Simon has at both writing comedy and connecting with people with believable characters and genuine situations.  “It’s very easy to sit back and watch and relate to”, says Sigman, who is making his directorial debut in Junction City.

The cast includes Brittany Shreve, Peighton Jamison, Mary Renee Shirk, Tiffany Stone, Tiffany Dozier, Stephanie Mead, and Katie Locke.  Bill Williams plays the title character Jake.

Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday night at 7:30pm, as well as a final performance on Sunday afternoon at 2pm.  The C. L. Hoover Opera House is located at 135 W 7th Street in Junction City.  For more information and tickets call 785-238-3906, or go online to http://www.jclt.info.
