The Unicode Consortium has released it’s annual list of the most used emojis.

Which, two things:

  1. There’s a Unicode Consortium.
  2. They keep track somehow of all the emojis we use. That’s…disconcerting.

Tears of Joy accounted for over 5 percent of all emojis used in 2021. That was followed by red heart, Rolling on the Floor Laughing (that’s like Tears of Joy, but tilted), thumbs up, and the loudly crying face. That’s the one with waterfalls coming out of the eyes.

The least-used emojis once again were the flag ones. TIL that there are 258 different flags, but no one uses them.
