Wamego area students and veterans are returning from their Honor Flight to visit Washington D.C. war memorials, and the community will gather to welcome them home Thursday.

The Homecoming Ceremony will take place in the Wamego High School gymnasium at 9:30 p.m., but doors open at 8:30 p.m. The celebration will feature a band and the Honor Flight bus will arrive accompanied by a motorcycle escort arranged by the American Legion riders.

This is the Wamego Honor Flight program’s seventh annual trip to D.C. The program pairs up area veterans with Wamego High School honor society students to share the experience and personal histories.

The event is open to the public and organizers expect an audience of 200. Attendees are encouraged to dress patriotically.
