Tony Wolf

JUNCTION CITY — Geary County Sheriff Tony Wolf will resign after pleading no contest Friday to a felony charge for gifting a county-owned firearm to a third party and misuse of public funds.

Wolf was arrested in October 2018 on those charges and on Friday appeared in Geary County District Court where he withdrew his previous not guilty pleas and entered pleas of no contest. The court then found Wolf guilty on both charges.

According to media reports, Wolf acknowledged he will send a letter to the governor announcing his resignation. He has waived his rights for an appeal and no additional charges are expected to be filed.

Wolf is expected to be placed on probation and avoid any jail time. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. June 28.
