Sharla Meisenheimer , the director of membership for the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce, announced on Thursday’s In Focus that they would be hosting their first Business Awards Luncheon in August of 2020.

The event was first proposed by Chamber president and CEO Jason Smith and is part of a week of events dedicated to celebrating and showcasing local businesses.

“Tuesday, we’re going to kick off that week with our awards luncheon and on Thursday we’re going to be doing our showcase and on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of that week, we’ll hopefully be able to do some educational pieces, again, to be able to celebrate the small businesses and the businesses that are right here in Manhattan,” Meisenheimer said.

At least seven awards will be given out during the ceremony, including a Cornerstone Award, and Entrepreneurial Award, a Travel and Tourism Award and a Women in Minority-Owned Business Award.

Criteria for nominees will be determined by a committee.
