A Manhattan native will be the next assistant city manager, according to a release from the manager’s office Wednesday.
Dennis Marstall, a Manhattan High School graduate, was selected out of four finalists for the job who were identified through a national search process. Prior to this, Marstall worked for 14 years with the City of Charlotte, North Carolina in various roles including budget and evaluation analyst, economic development program manager, as well as chief of staff/assistant to the mayor and city manager. Most recently he served as Vice President of Community Investment and Impact for the United Way of the Central Carolinas.
Marstall’s responsibility will consist of supervision of staff and administrative policy development, coordinating state legislative activities, working with the manager and deputy manager on projects and redevelopment activities, serving as the manager’s designated representative at the Riley County Law Enforcement Agency Board, in addition to acting as staff liaison to the City-University Special Projects Fund Committee.

Marstall received his bachelor’s in political science from Kansas State University and his master’s in public administration from the University of Louisville.
âI look forward to returning to Manhattan and working with the dynamic City team to serve the citizens of my hometown,â says Marstall.
Marstall succeeds former Assistant City Manager Kiel Mangus, who left the position after five years for the deputy city manager position in Derby.
He is set to start work on January 25th.
