Pictured above is the Miller Ranch area following the June 11, 2008 tornado that blew through Manhattan.
Today is the 10-year anniversary of that tornado. There were no deaths in Manhattan caused directly by the tornado, but the storm did destroy 45 houses and 3 businesses and damaged hundreds more structures. It also caused more than 20 million dollars in damage to K-State and destroyed the wind erosion laboratory.
When the vortex hit Manhattan it was classified as an EF4 tornado, which have wind speeds between 150 and 200 miles per hour. By the time it reached K-State it had slowed to an EF1, which have wind speeds between 86 and 110 miles per hour.
