The Riley County Police Department Law Board, in coordination with McGrath Human Resources Group, will be hosting community meetings on the search for a new director for the RCPD, according to a press release from the department.
Earlier this year, current Director Brad Schoen announced he will retire in December. The first community input meeting will be held on Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Manhattan Fire Department Headquarters at 2000 Denison Avenue in Manhattan. A second public meeting will be held on Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Leonardville Community Center at 118 North Erpelding Road in Leonardville.
Riley County Law Board Chair Craig Beardsley said he hopes community members will attend the meetings and give beneficial input on what the citizens of Riley County hope to see for the next leader of RCPD.
“The community meetings are a very important part of the process leading to the next Director of the Riley County Police Department,” Beardsley said. “The citizens of Riley County have the opportunity to provide input on the qualities and attributes they expect of the next Director during these initial meeting, then again later when the finalists for the Director position come to Riley County towards the end of the selection process.”
The Riley County Police Department is a consolidated agency with oversight by the Law Board. The Law Board will appoint a new director in the coming months. The position is open to qualified internal and external candidates.
