Facing a severe blood shortage after storms and disasters around the nation, the American Red Cross has issued a call for donations of all blood types — especially from people with blood types O positive and negative.
As a result, local Red Cross branches are advertising multiple blood drives being held around the Manhattan area throughout the rest of the month to help address the need.
The Kevin Coffey Memorial Blood Drive in honor of Manhattan High grad Kevin Coffey will take place Thursday, November 15, from noon to 6 p.m. and Friday, November 16, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s held at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church in Manhattan.
The Clay Center Blood Drive will be Friday, November 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at the Clay Center National Guard Armory.
The Herrington Community Blood Drive will be Monday, November 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Herrington High School.
Three more blood drives in Manhattan will close out the month. One will be at The Holiday Inn at K-State on Tuesday, November 27, from noon to 6 p.m. and Wednesday, November 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Another will be at Genesis Health Club on Thursday, November 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The final Red Cross drive of the month will be at the Foundation Sports Training Facility on Friday, November 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
