MANHATTAN — The Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 Board of Education received a quick update on the planning for the new elementary school.
Board Member Karla Hagemeister says the elementary building is the first bond project they will tackle.

The group is made of members from the Facilities and Growth Committee, BHS Hutton, and district level staff who will be moving into this new building.

Hagemeister says as they move forward with the planning, they expect to bring in more people to get a better idea of the smaller details they need.
Assistant Superintendent Eric Reid also shared with the board the finalized 2019-2020 school calendar which is similar to this year’s but with a few changes.

Reid says the 2019-2020 school year will start Aug. 14. Next year’s Spring Break will once again align with Kansas State University’s schedule.

2019-2020 school calendar for Manhattan/Ogden Schools

An announcement regarding the hire of a new Manhattan High School principal won’t come until after this year’s Spring Break which begins this weekend.

USD 383 Manhattan/Ogden Superintendent Dr. Marvin Wade confirmed that Wednesday on KMAN’s In Focus. Wade says they wrapped up interviews with the five finalists last week.

Wade says he anticipates announcing his selection to replace Greg Hoyt at the March 20 school board meeting.

The candidates include current Manhattan High assistant principals David Holloway and Michael Dorst, former Lawrence High Assistant Principal Dr. Michael Norris, Decatur Community Schools Principal Benjamin Jimenez and Hays High Principal Martin Straub.
