ALBQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) A Wamego couple who recently lost a son to a California hiking accident says their son’s ashes were stolen from a New Mexico motel parking lot.

Steven and Kathy Hunt reported the theft on Monday.

Authorities say 32-year-old Kyle Hunt was killed in a hiking accident two weeks ago.

The couple says someone broke into their son’s car outside an Albuquerque motel and stole the ashes.

The car was attached to a moving truck.
The search for Kyle Hunt had gone on for days until a hiker found Kyle’s backpack in a ravine.

Kyle was working for the Spaceship Company in the Mojave desert as an aeorspace engineer.

Steven and Kathy Hunt were moving their late son’s belongings and had just started back to Wamego when they stopped Monday at an Albuquerque motel–they found the next morning someone had smashed their late son’s car window, with several items taken including the ashes.
