Winter weather is in the forecast for Wednesday, though a timetable and forecast amounts remain largely uncertain.
That uncertainty is due to dry air and warmer temperatures. That being said, the National Weather Service is continuing a Winter Weather Advisory through tonight for the potential of accumulating snow, with amounts up to 3 inches over some areas. The Manhattan area specifically could see about 1 to 2 inches with a possibility of a light glaze.
The Weather Service says higher amounts can’t be ruled out if a band of heavier snow is able to set up. That would most likely be northwest of a line stretching from Abilene to Manhattan to Hiawatha, with snow, sleet and freezing rain mix possible along and southeast of this line. Up to a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation may be possible with higher accumulations further south and east.
Geary County USD 475 and Fort Riley are both operating on a two hour delay today. No other weather related announcements have been made.
