One benefit of the Coronatine (TM pending) is that our favorite artists have had ample time to work on and record new music.

For instance, Taylor Swift, who announced Thursday morning on Twitter that she would be dropping her eighth studio album, entitled “folklore”, at midnight (11 p.m. CST).

“Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening,” Swift wrote. “But there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen. Tonight at midnight, Ill be releasing my entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears and musings into.”

The album has 16 songs, which Taylor wrote and recorded in isolation with the help of co-writers like Bon Iver and frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff.

The surprise drop is a departure from her normal M.O. when it comes to album releases, which usually includes weeks of teases before revealing a project is on the way.

“Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed,” she wrote. “My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That side of uncertainty I can get on board with.”

To coincide with the release, a new video for a song titled “Cardigan” will also be premiered tonight.

You can pre-order the album now here.
